Can't get the colour right? Let's talk about 'right' for a moment - and to do this I need to rant about a couple of things: 1) there is no neutral, and, 2) fads come and go/you know what you like.

Do you have visions of the Interior Designer (never a lowly decorator dahhhling) sweeping in to your home, flinging her Pashmina shawl over her shoulder, and crying, "It's all got to go!!!"? The prospect of meeting this person (male or female - let's be honest) keeps many needy homeowners from hiring someone to help make their homes more perfect. Here are some pointers/suggestions to help make you more confident about what you want and absolutely don't want in your personal space so that the big bad decorator won't be able to scare you!

Designer Do's and Don'ts

Designers can be pretty opinionated about what people should and should not do in their homes. Sometimes what a designer says should be heeded, and sometimes it should be completely ignored. I've met with clients who are terrified by some pronouncement a famous designer has just made - "You must never, ever ..." - because obviously they had!

My question to them is, "Do you like it?" or "Does it work in your space?" Sometimes those designers have some good ideas. I've come across lists of do and don'ts from high powered designers in magazines over the years, and I thought I'd share some of the ones I agree with and even some I don't (my comments are in italics)!
